President Kagame at Opening Ceremony of the International Ombudsman conference – Kigali, 13 October 2009

On 13 th October 2009 ,The President of the Republic of Rwanda His Excellency Paul KAGAME officially opened the Ombudsman International Conference and the 200 th anniversary of Parliamentary Swedish Ombudsman taking place this in Kigali Serena Hotel.

In his opening remarks addressed to the participants of the conference , the guest of honor President KAGAME said that the work of the Office of the Ombudsman and other anti-corruption institutions on our continent should make every effort to win the struggle against any behavior and activities that undermines Africa’s effort to escape the  traps of poverty and aid dependency . The President also thanked the office of Ombudsman in Rwanda for the contribution in promoting good governance , preventing and fighting injustice and corruption.

Umuvunyi_Pic In his speech, the Ombudsman Tito RUTAREMARA started by wishing a happy bicentenary anniversary of the Parliamentary Swedish Ombudsman.

He compared the evilness of the corruption which undermines the fortune of the country as the cancer in human being’s health. He concluded saying that achievements of the Office of Ombudsman in Rwanda in the battle of the preventing and fighting against injustice and corruption is due to the political will in promoting the good governance.

Mats MELIN, the Parliamentary Swedish Ombudsman thanked the Office of Ombudsman for hosting this international conference and appreciated the level their Office has reached in fighting and preventing injustice and corruption. Mats MELIN have also said that this conference is a good opportunity for exchanging experiences. He said that the institutions should be financially independent so that they can be efficient and effective.

The opening ceremony was attended by different personalities from high ranked authorities of the country such as His Excellency the President Paul KAGAME, the President of the Senate, the Speaker of the chamber of deputies, the President of the Supreme Court, the Prime Minister, Ministers, Permanent Secretaries, ambassadors, directors of the parastatals institutions , the representatives of the institutions related to the office of Ombudsman, representatives of the private sector institutions, the country director of the international organizations UNDP and UNDF which funded some activities of the Office of Ombudsman and the other participants.   Please continue to read the Conference proceedings
