OUTREACH ACTIVITIES OF THE OFFICE OF OMBUDSMAN

The Office of the Ombudsman has Office in Kigali City, as a result many people elsewhere in the country are unable to access the Office. To help these people Ombudsman investigators often “take the office to the people” Outreach program”. In this case officers will spend some time, from a few hours to a few days in a given location. The Officers receives complaints of injustice and work together with citizens as well as their leaders to find suitable solutions to such complaints.Generally, receiving complaints of injustices take place soon after a public education meeting.

Since the establishment of the Office in January 2004, some activities have been accomplished and others are still pending, among those are :

  • To search for equipments;
  • To recruit the Staff of the Office;
  • Receiving and examining complaints that were given at headquarters of the Office and others from districts and provinces;
  • To train the Staff;
  • To sensitize various people such as leaders at different levels, students, civil servants, civil society, NGO's and other Organisations that work hand in hand with the Office.
