THE OFFICE OF THE OMBUDSMAN OF KENYA TO EMULATE RWANDA’S EXPERIENCE

On 10 th March 2012, the Ombudsman of Kenya Mr. Otiende Amollo with 3 members of his delegation concluded a two days visit to the Office of the Ombudsman of Rwanda . The visit aimed at learning from Rwanda’s experience as Kenyan Ombudsman is a new institution which became functional 3 months ago.

“ Rwanda is the first country that our institution visits, we want to learn from its outstanding achievements in the promotion of good governance. ” said Amollo

The Office of the Ombudsman has been given a wide mandate both by the Constitution and the act which is to address the rampant rise in maladministration and promote good governance and efficient public service delivery by enforcing the right to fair administrative action which is a fundamental right under Article 47 of the Constitution of Kenya.

On their stay in Rwanda they visited Genocide Memorial of Gisozi and laid wreaths on the mass grave of the Genocide victims.
