Rwanda to Host the 17th EAAACA Annual General Meeting in 2027

From April 21 to 24, 2026, Nairobi, Kenya, hosted a series of high-level meetings bringing together anti-corruption institutions and stakeholders from across the East African region. The engagements included the 16th Annual General Meeting of the East African Association of Anti-Corruption Authorities (EAAACA), the Executive Committee (EXCOM) Meeting, the Regional Anti-Corruption Conference, and the ARIN-EA Annual General Meeting.

Rwanda’s Office of the Ombudsman took part in the meetings, represented by the Ombudsman. The gatherings aimed to strengthen cooperation among member states further, facilitate the exchange of best practices, improve institutional effectiveness, and reinforce collective efforts to prevent and combat corruption and related offences.

As an active member of EAAACA, Rwanda continues to play a significant role in promoting integrity, accountability, and good governance both nationally and across the region.

Speaking during the opening of the Conference on Asset Recovery and Anti-Money Laundering, the Ombudsman emphasised that the recovery of stolen assets should not be limited to reclaiming misappropriated funds or property, but should also serve to rebuild public confidence in institutions and ensure justice.

She said: “Effective asset recovery is not merely about recovering stolen wealth; it is about restoring public trust and delivering justice.”

During the meetings, Rwanda once again demonstrated the confidence it enjoys within regional anti-corruption leadership structures. The country was elected to chair ARIN-EA and to serve as Vice-President of EAAACA.

In addition, Rwanda was selected to host the 17th EAAACA Annual General Meeting, scheduled for March 2027.

These outcomes further underscore Rwanda’s commitment to advancing good governance, transparency, and anti-corruption efforts at both regional and international levels.

According to the latest 2025 Corruption Perceptions Index released by Transparency International, Rwanda scored 58 out of 100, ranking 41st out of 182 countries worldwide, 3rd in Africa, and 1st  in the East African region.
