After appointing the Chief of Ombudsman at Saint Ignatius High School, they decided to establish an anti-corruption club.

On this Tuesday, 02 July 2024, the staff of the Office of the Ombudsman together with the leaders of Saint Ignatius School located in the city of Kigali, taught the students of this school about the dangers of corruption and injustice and they are requested to fight against it.

Hon.YANKULIJE Odette, the Deputy Ombudsman in charge of fighting against injustice first explained to the students of the institution the duties of the Ombudsman to fight against corruption and injustice and how they are implemented, telling them that it is good for them to know this at a young people thus they will be good leaders.

She said, "There are those who ask why the Office of the Ombudsman teaches about preventing and fighting corruption to young people who feel that they have no contact with corruption, but they are wrong who think in that way, because a study conducted by Transparency International Rwanda called Gender-based Corruption at the workplace in Rwanda was conducted in the year 2022, showed that corruption in schools is at the rate of 36.10%.”

Schools are in 4th place after the private sector with 57.2% points, higher education institutions (High Learning Institutions) in 2nd place with 42.6% points, Local Governments in 1st place 3 with 37.2% points and the 4th place is secondary schools with 36.10% points. Hon.YANKULIJE Odette, the Deputy Ombudsman in charge of fighting against injustice, delivered the message in front of students.

Hon.YANKURIJE also thanked the students for doing everything they could to fight against corruption and injustice until Saint Ignatius High School appointed a chief Ombudsman, even the head of the school, Father Nsengimana Emile, S.J, testified that there are exemplary students who have demonstrated integrities at a young age.

Father Nsengimana Emile, S.J said, "I am telling you this because you all know, a student named ISIMBI NTARE Anais is studying S5 MCB, get up and see her, this student was given more than 2 marks in the test compared to what was on the test paper, she immediately went to tell her teacher that the score that exceeds is not herself, so she requests her teacher to remove it. This is what should characterize us in all daily works at school and where we live."

The program of the Office of the Ombudsman to teach prevention, and fight against corruption and injustice is not only done in Saint Ignatius High School because it is already done in other 62 schools and it is a permanent program. In this program, students are requested to avoid looking for things they didn't work for, to avoid scammers, to strive to be honest Rwandans, each one to be the eye of the other, giving advice, and operate an anti-corruption club.
