Anti-corruption week: The Office of the Ombudsman discussed with land registrars on how to eradicate corruption in construction
Today on Monday 6/12/2021, the Office of the Ombudsman and its stakeholders held a consultative meeting with the District Land Service Officers and the Provincial Land Registrars on the corruption loopholes in Construction service delivery and Strategies to overcome them.
In his opening remarks, the Minister of Local Government, Hon. Gatabazi Jean Marie Vianney called on the participants of the meeting to take measures and strategies which will contribute to the effective prevention and fighting against corruption.
He stressed on good service delivery as one of key elements to eradicate corruption loopholes in construction services. He encouraged ordinary people as well to take part in this battle by legally requesting construction permits instead of providing corruption for having rights.
Hon. Minister pointed out the consequences of giving and receiving corruption, including the demolition of citizens buildings as a result of corruption.
The Minister concluded by thanking the Office of the Ombudsman and its stakeholders for organising the meeting.
The Deputy Ombudsman in charge of preventing and fighting against corruption, Hon. MUKAMA Abbas called on land and construction service providers to work with Rwandans to fight corruption by providing better and more timely services as one measure in eradicating corruption loopholes in construction service delivery.
The consultative meeting was organized with support from the European Union in line with the Anti-Corruption week started on 28/12/2021 and ended on 9/12/2021 by Celebrating International Anti-Corruption day under the Theme " Eradicating corruption to achieve sustainable development".
