Citizens praised the Office of the Ombudsman's campaign of preventing and fighting against corruption and injustice at their place of residence.
From this Tuesday, May 21st, 2024 to May 24th, 2024, the Office of the Ombudsman started visiting the people in different sectors of Rusizi and Nyamasheke districts in the Western Province for the campaign of preventing and fighting against injustice.
One of the examples of those who appreciated this program is a resident named HARERIMANA Donati from Bweyeye sector in Rusizi district who received 200 thousand Rwandan francs as a loan from a person who claims to be an entrepreneur named MUGIRANEZA Gustave. It is a debt that he says is owed 4 years ago.

"I have been asking for my money for 4 years. I had worked for him to guard his machines in the Bweyeye sector and he did not give them to me, but Umuvunyi (Ombudsman delegation) found out that he was coming here. I brought my case to all the people I spoke to but they did not help me, but Umuvunyi called him on the phone in front of the people and asked him to pay me, immediately. He sends it and I pick it up and now I have it. In my hands, I can't thank enough the Office of Ombudsman of Rwanda for what they are doing, but I am very happy that this program to receive people's complaints will continue" He said

This activity was done in front of the community as well as other similar ones that are being addressed immediately where it touched the hearts of the people who participated in this campaign.

The people are happy with how their cases are being solved
Not only that, but also in the Bugarama sector, there are between 60 and 90 cases of injustice, mainly related to land documents, family disputes, concubinage, and related issues, expropriation while in the Butare sector, there are mainly cases of school builders not being paid. but the Chief Ombudsman Hon.NIRERE Madeleine requests the authorities to pay them within 2 weeks while other issues will resolved in the community assemblies known as “Inteko z’Abaturage”.

We receive people's cases, some of them we handled at the place and others we gave to the relevant institutions and ask them to decide in less than a month." She Added

The program of the Office of the Ombudsman is to prevent and fight against corruption and injustice in the regions of the country. This time it the campaign is being held in Rusizi and Nyamasheke districts from May 21 to May 24, 2024, where representatives of the Office of the Ombudsman are in different sectors of these districts, in cooperation with the administration of these districts. It aims to teach, train, and receive people's cases and solve them, all are based on the line of fighting and preventing corruption and injustice. Citizens’ participation in this program, measured between 2 thousand and 1500 people for each campaign site.
In general, in the districts of Nyamasheke and Rusizi, in this campaign, the Office of the Ombudsman received 229 cases from the citizens, in the district of Rusizi 128 cases were received, 32 were immediately resolved, the other 78 were submitted to the relevant authorities and 18 will be followed up by the Office of the Ombudsman. At the time, 101 cases were received in Nyamasheke district, of which 58 will be referred to the District administration and 8 will be followed up by the Office of the Ombudsman.
