EASTERN PROVINCE: Rwamagana District rewarded by the Office for the courage of fighting corruption

This Thursday 2/12/2021, the Office of The Ombudsman and the leaders from local government had discussions at the level of each Province. They discussed about the role of the District Anti-Corruption Advisory Councils (DACACI) in preventing and combating injustice and corruption in their respective Districts.

The Chief Ombudsman Nirere Madeleine who  joined the Eastern Province, praised the work of DACACI and urged its members to work harder to address injustice, loopholes of corruption in procurement and tried to tackle other obstacles to community development.

"These councils have to focus on exchanging information on alleged corruption and injustice cases, and to focus also on educating the public on how to prevent and report corruption". She said.
The Governor of Eastern Province, Emmanuel Gasana commended the province's cooperation with the Office of the Ombudsman in the fight against corruption and injustice. He asserted that the local leaders will succeed the fight against Corruption and Injustice through sustaining the homegrown solution called “Village free of Crime” they started. 
The governor also said that injustice and corrupt practices undermine good governance, undermine development, undermine the country's vision, and that he committed that Province will continue to work with other institutions in the fight against corruption and injustice.

This day was also the opportunity to award the District in each Province for their outstanding achievements in DACACI activities of preventing and fighting Corruption and Injustice. Rwamagana District was the first in Eastern Province. The Office of the Ombudsman advised and recommended all districts to learn from the first Districts in the program.
