KWIBUKA29: The Staff and Officials from the Office of The Ombudsman were briefed on the Genocide Against the Tutsi in 1994
In line of the 29th commemoration of the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi, today, the Staff and Officials from the Office of The Ombudsman were briefed on the Genocide Against the Tutsi in 1994. They focused on the theme “TWIBUKE TWIYUBAKA TUDAHERANWA N’AMATEKA MABI” by Me Bayingana Janvier from IBUKA Rwanda.

In this lecture, it is reiterated that the Genocide against the Tutsis is rooted in the ideology of hatred that has been fostered in Rwandans for a long time. It was also pointed out that today there are those who still have that ideology and continue to spread it. Through the lecture, it was brought back to the destruction of the Rwandan unity from the time of the colonialists, the Republics that followed those colonialists; the first and the second Republics.

The Chief Ombudsman Nirere Madeleine comforted all Rwandans, especially the staff of the Office of the Ombudsman, during this commemoration of the 29th Genocide against the Tutsis in April 1994.
Additionally, the Chief Ombudsman urged the youth to ignore any rumors circulating on social media that pose a threat to the Nation (Rwanda).

The Chief Ombudsman said that to commemorate is an occasion to pay tribute to the more than one million innocent lives lost through the heinous extermination of Tutsi during the Genocide against the Tutsi in Rwanda in 1994.

The Ombudsman requested the staff of the Office of the Ombudsman to continue to remember, unite and renew. She expressed gratitude to the RPF-Inkotanyi forces (RPA) for stopping and putting an end to the Genocide against Tutsi in 1994, highlighting the fact that the Genocide had been made possible at the time due to the Nation's ongoing injustice.
The Commemoration29 activities at the Office of The Ombudsman will continue during these 100 days of Kwibuka29 where on 5/05/2023, the staff and Officials of the Office of The Ombudsman will visit the Genocide Memorial called COUR D'APPEL DE MUSANZE in order to pay respect to the innocents buried there.
