SOUTHERN PROVINCE: Nyanza District wins over other Districts of the Southern Province of Rwanda in the fight against corruption and Injustice
Thursday 02nd December 2021 at the Office of the Southern Province, The Office of The Ombudsman held the meeting of all DACACI (Anti-corruption committees on the district level) members in the southern province.
This dialogue was amongst activities of the Anti-corruption week that ends on the 09th December (The International Anti-corruption Day).
This dialogue convened Districts Mayors, security organs members, Madam Alice KAYITESI, the Governor of the southern province, Madame MURESHYANKWANO Marie Rose representing APNAC, Marie Claire MUKASINE, Chairperson of National Human Rights Commission and MUKAMA Abbas, The Deputy Ombudsman represented the Office
During the dialogue, MUKAMA Abbas reiterated that the fight against corruption and injustice is not over. ‘’ Yet Rwanda has a good place in the region and internationally in fighting corruption but there is still a way to go. We need to keep fighting so that the children of Rwanda grow in a corruption free country after we step aside, he said. We don’t need to compare ourselves with neighboring countries but we need to double our efforts. He added
The participants also mentioned the need of fighting the culture of corruption whereby people even plan to bribe someone without even being asked corruption. < people are blindly entering corruption in the culture as they plan for corruption when they need a service>, said Madame Consolée KAMARAMPAKA, the Chief of Rwanda Investigation Bureau in the Southern Province. Now we need to inform citizens the hierarchy of institutions so that the will be aware of the importance of demanding their services from the right institutions, she added.
During this dialogue each district Anti- corruption council was given the marks after the evaluation done by The Office of the Ombudsman basing on what each district did in fighting corruption. Nyanza District was the First among other southern Province districts with 78%
The 09th December 2021 is the International Anti-corruption Day where Rwanda will join the international community in celebrating the above day with the theme: Eradicating corruption, a core goal to sustainable development.
