Rwanda has started the annual week campaign on Access to Information law
Karongi- January 27th 2020 marked the kick off of the Access to information law campaign week in Rwanda through the Office of The Ombudsman of Rwanda. This week that started with the radio talk show comprises diverse activities that include mobilisation campaign, community theatre, media shows and the promotional materials distribution around the country on this law.
After the radio talk show done by Jean Aimé KAJANGANA and Gerard MBANDA at Isangano radio in Karongi district the mobilisation went on with community theatre with Mashirika performing arts and communication company.
This access to information week was organized by the Office of The Ombudsman in partnership with other government and private institutions with financial support from European Union.
CONSULTATIVE MEETING ON ACCESS TO INFORMATION LAW
On 30th January 2020 in the meeting room of Golf Eden Rock Hotel in Karongi District different institutions had a consultative meeting with the Office of The Ombudsman. These institutions include Rwanda Governance board, security organs, Media High Council, Rwanda Media Commission, Sector’s officials and opinion leaders.
Opening this meeting the Ombudsman, Anastase Murekezi reminded that seeking and receiving information is among the primary human right as stated by International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights (ICCPR) especially it its article 19 that the government of Rwanda signed on 16th April 1975 and enter into force on 23rd March 1976.
Closing the meeting, MUNYANTWALI Alphonse, The Governor of the Western province thanked The Office of The Ombudsman and the stakeholder for preparing this consultative meeting because the discussions have included citizens, leaders and journalists.
