THE OFFICE OF THE OMBUDSMAN AND ITS STAFF JOINED RWANDANS IN COMMEMORATING THE 27TH ANNIVERSARY OF THE 1994 GENOCIDE AGAINST THE TUTSI
Today, the Office of the Ombudsman and its staff joined Rwandans in commemorating the 27th Anniversary of the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi.
Via webex, Staff and Officials of the Office of the Ombudsman had presentation and discussion with the representative of CNLG on the theme of “Preventing and Combating the Ideology of the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi.
Mr. BIMENYIMANA Valens from CNLG pointed out that the ideology of Genocide denial activities is common both in the country and especially outside Rwanda.
He also pointed out that strategies to combat it and prevent it include but not limited to sensitization and mobilization through dialogue, the National Itorero, remembrance (Kwibuka), the use of justice, international cooperation and diplomacy and others that have been put in place to punish the crime of Genocide ideology and related offences.
Honorable Chief Ombudsman Madam NIRERE Madeleine said that the commemoration of the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi is a time to pay homage and tribute to the victims of the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi.
Hon. Chief Ombudsman called upon the participants to take action against Genocide ideology and Genocide ideology spreaders and she particularly encouraged genocide survivors to keep resilience.
The day dedicated to the Commemoration of 27th Genocide against Tutsi by the Office the Ombudsman was concluded in Kamonyi District where the Leaders and the staff of The Office of The Ombudsman paid tribute to the victims of Genocide against Tutsi resting in Kamonyi Genocide Memorial Site. They have donated some amount of money from Staff and Officials of the Office of the Ombudsman for their contribution to maintain the Memorial Site.
