The Office of the Ombudsman has conducted an Anti-corruption and Anti-Injustice campaign in Kayonza, Nyaruguru, Nyamasheke and Gicumbi Districts

The Office of the Ombudsman on Friday, March 4, 2022, concluded its campaign conducted from Monday 28 February to Friday March 4, 2022 to prevent and combat injustice and corruption in Kayonza, Nyaruguru, Nyamasheke and Gicumbi Districts.

The message delivered by The Chief Ombudsman and her Deputies, was delivered through various media outlets namely Radio Huye, Radio Rusizi and community Radios operating in the Province (Radio Ishingiro, Radio Izuba).

The following days, the Office of the Ombudsman with the District Administration received and resolved complaints lodged by the citizens at the sector levels.  

The Chief Ombudsman, Nirere Madeleine, was accompanied by a group of staff from the Office of the Ombudsman and the District Administration carried out the campaign in some sectors of Kayonza District namely Murundi, Mwiri, Rwinkwavu, Kabare, Rukara and Kabarondo.

The chief Ombudsman reminded the citizens that they have a responsibility to prevent corruption and injustice, and called on them to comply with administrative decisions.

The Deputy Ombudsman in charge of preventing and fighting against Corruption, Honorable MUKAMA Abbas and his team worked in some sectors of Nyamasheke District namely Karambi, Shangi, Nyabitekeri, Karengera, Ruharambuga and Mahembe. The Honorable Deputy Ombudsman told the citizens of Shangi Sector that they should join hands in the fight against corruption by reporting corruption cases through the toll-free number of the Office of the Ombudsman (call: 199 or sending messages for free on 1990).

The Deputy Ombudsman in charge of preventing and fighting Injustice, Honorable Yankulije Odette and the staff of the Office of the Ombudsman in collaboration with the District administration worked in some sectors of Nyaruguru District namely Kivu, Mata, Muganza, Ngoma, Munini and Kibeho. The Honorable Yankulije explained the role of citizens and Authorities in the fight against corruption and its consequences.

The Permanent Secretary of the Office of the Ombudsman Mr. MBARUBUKEYE Xavier conducted the campaign in one of the sectors in Gicumbi District namely Byumba, Mutete, Miyove, Rubaya, Bwisige, Nyankenke, Cyumba, Mukarange, Shangasha, Bukure, Rutare and Rushaki.

The complaints raised by the citizens during the Campaign in Kayonza, Nyamasheke, Gicumbi and Nyaruguru Districts are mainly land related disputes, family related disputes, issues of those who have not been compensated for relocation due to public interest and more.

The Ombudsman and the Deputy Ombudsmen in collaboration with the District and Security Authorities have resolved some, and the rest will be followed up by the District and the Office of the Ombudsman.

 The Office of the Ombudsman commended the District and Security Authorities for their continued cooperation with the Office of the Ombudsman in addressing citizens complaints during the campaign in Nyamasheke, Kayonza, Gicumbi and Nyaruguru Districts. The District Administration has also assured the Office of the Ombudsman the collaboration in addressing complaints of citizens.
