The Office of The Ombudsman launched the Anti-Corruption Week 2022

In celebrating the International Anti-Corruption Day on 09/12/2022, the Office of the Ombudsman organized the Anti-Corruption Week 2022 from 26/11/2022 to 9/12/2022 under the theme “Promoting Anti-Corruption Values for Sustainable Development”.

Corruption is a concern of the world which hinders the development of countries, their inhabitants and their well-being. Corruption prevails in any country in the World whether developed or developing countries; that is why they have joined hands in putting in place measures to prevent and fight it.

In the launching of this Anti-corruption Week, the members of the District Advisory Council in charge of combating injustice and corruption and various others participated in the community work that took place on November 26, 2022 and delivered the Anti-corruption message to the community across the country, where citizens were reminded of the evils of corruption, they were also reminded that they must report corruption cases.

The staff and Officials from the Office of the Ombudsman also joined the citizens of the City of Kigali, Kicikiro District in the community work to plant trees at Mburabuturo Hill.

After the launching of the week, in her Interview by the members of the press, The Chief Ombudsman Hon. NIRERE Madeleine pointed out that one of the strategies established by the Government of Rwanda in the fight against the evil of corruption is to raise public awareness and make a critical analysis of corruption loopholes in the functioning of Institutions and said that in this week there will be done various anti-corruption activities in line of the campaign.

Hon. Chief Ombudsman said "in celebration of this International Anti-Corruption Day, Rwanda has set up a special week to fight it; Anti-corruption week 2022 where various activities are planned to raise the awareness of the citizens on the evil of corruption and engaging citizens in preventing and fighting Corruption ".

Rwanda has put in place various measures and strategies to prevent and fight corruption:          the National Strategy for Transformation (NST1: 2017-2024) which foresees that in 2024, the Anti-corruption rate is expected to shift from 86.56% (RGS 2016) to 92.56% by 2024 while in its vision of 2050, Rwanda should be the first country globally in the fight against corruption.
